DENTON, Texas — Veterans and active-duty service members can get into Denton ISD athletic events and most fine-arts performances at no charge.
The district announced the Honor Card on Monday, Sept. 14. The Cross Timbers Gazette reported it Sept. 24. Seniors in the community already get into most district events free under the Gold Card, which the district announced in July. The Honor Card extends that admission to people who have served in the military.
There is no fee for the card. The district issues one card per person, and the holder has to show it at the entrance. Veterans and active-duty members can pick a card up at the Stephens Building, 1307 N. Locust St., between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. They need proof of military service. A person who already has a Gold Card and also qualifies for an Honor Card can trade the Gold Card in.
The program is active for the 2026-27 school year. The district said the card will not be accepted at UIL playoff events or at events that Denton ISD is not hosting.
“The Denton ISD Honor Card Program is our way of saying ‘thank you’ to the veterans and active-duty service members who have given so much on behalf of others, and for continuing to give back here at home,” the district said in a social media post quoted by the Gazette.
The district said it wants card holders at games, concerts, and performances so students see what service looks like, and so more neighbors turn out for student activities. Both the Honor Card and the Gold Card are aimed at that.
Cards are available at the Stephens Building during those weekday hours. The Gazette story is at crosstimbersgazette.com.
