DENTON, Texas — A field that Borman Elementary School will share with Denia Park could be finished by Nov. 30, about nine months ahead of its original August 2027 target, Denton ISD and city officials said at a joint meeting Oct. 13. The date is a projection; construction and final approvals still have to be completed.
The multipurpose field is going in where the former Borman Elementary building stood. The new elementary building opened for the 2026–27 school year on the same property. The redesigned site also gives the school more room for prekindergarten and about 150 additional students, according to Community Impact's account of the district update.
District officials said crews are working on irrigation, grass and concrete around the field. The school is operating under a temporary certificate of occupancy while minor interior work and the field are completed. Remaining indoor work includes boards in common areas and final testing of building systems. The district said much of that work is scheduled outside school hours to limit disruption. A permanent occupancy certificate would follow completion of the remaining work.
The city and district planned the field as a shared space. Denton also improved Denia Park's trails, trees, restrooms, drainage, lighting and accessibility as part of the broader arrangement. Those park improvements were completed earlier this year, officials said.
City and school officials still need a shared-use agreement for the new gymnasium. They discussed using it for city recreation programs, including summer camps. Residents should wait for a final agreement and schedules before assuming public access to school facilities.
The next clear milestone is completion of the field and the remaining school work. Community Impact reported the joint meeting update on Oct. 19.
